Hey folks! Things have been busy around here. My favorite part of this job is the people – you – working with you toward your goals.
When you own or purchase a home, home insurance is usually required and built into your mortgage. When you rent a home, it can be an afterthought. But, trust me, renter’s insurance is something you should obtain when you sign your lease, effective on the start date of your lease. You can choose your coverage, and I suggest you make sure it will cover your costs if you’re displaced from your home due to damage. It also usually covers possessions you carry with you when you’re out and about, depending on coverage. I cannot recommend specific companies, but shop around. It generally costs a few hundred dollars a year, payable in monthly installments – less than a latte a day. Don’t be afraid to obtain various quotes and information on coverages. Also, count on insurers checking your credit report and basing your rates on your score.
Speaking of credit, did you know the best time to check your credit reports is a few months before you buy a home? Report errors can take a few months to fix, and your credit fitness is the most important aspect of your home purchase. You’re entitled to one free credit report annually per credit bureau. At that site, sign up carefully and do not provide credit card information, it’s not necessary for your free reports. I’ll post detailed information soon on keeping on top of your credit. It’s a topic close to my heart!
Oh, and have I mentioned that 1319 Ringwood Avenue is in attorney review? So, of my current listings, 2 Prospect Street is available to purchase, and a lovely home it is! If you see it and love it, the owners would like to receive your offer.
One more note before I run – today’s the last day of the month to enter my monthly contest to win a $25 Stop ‘n Shop gift card. You’ve got to be in it to win it!
Back soon,
Melanie
